Start packing your bags for the National Republican Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina in August 2020!  There are a few ways to a delegate, as a convention volunteer, as a holder of a press pass, or as a vendor or host of a hospitality suite.  North Carolina State Director, Laura McCue, proposed looking into becoming a vendor at the Convention.  She and other AFFT state directors have often successfully hosted vendor booths at their state and local conventions, and this promises to be an important one for us.  Laura has written the 2020 Convention host committee about vendor and hospitality room opportunities and was able to obtain the name of the person in charge of the convention.  She has actually made a FairTax presentation to a group including this person in the past!   Currently, Laura is waiting to hear back from this convention director.

Charlotte, NC

The theme for the convention is to be “Diversity and Inclusion.” Laura thinks that North Carolina District 11 Congressman and head of the congressional Freedom Caucus, Mark Meadows, might be able to help us.  There was further discussion about getting a hospitality suite, possibly asking Mike Huckabee for help and guidance.
At the October 2018 Board of Directors’ Conference of Americans For Fair Taxation, Laura was designated the coordinator for these events. If you want to help Laura, you can contact her at

The Republican Convention will take place from August 24, 2020 to August 27, 2020.
The Democratic Convention will take place July 13, 2020 to July 16, 2020 in a city yet to be chosen. If anyone has contacts with the Chair of that convention and would like to help set up participation, please let Jim Bennett know.
We thank Laura McCue for contributing this week’s Grassroots Corner.

For the past sixteen years she has been actively involved with Americans for Fair Taxation serving as the volunteer NC State Director.  She has also served on the fundraising committee of Americans for Fair Taxation.  Laura was instantly hooked on the FairTax idea upon reading Neal Boortz’s first book, The FairTax, and set out to find out how she could help make it happen.  She has been in contact with over 1200 area supporters and has hosted meetings in Asheville where FairTax advocates gather to plan events to educate others, to raise funds, and to enjoy the company of like-thinkers.  Laura says that FairTax supporters are hardworking, interesting, enthusiastic, patriotic, positive, and can-do people.  She wonders who wouldn’t want to be involved with such a dedicated group!
Laura actively volunteers with Americans For Fair Taxation and has given presentations on the FairTax to numerous civic and political groups in North Carolina.  She also serves The Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Board of Review member, as President of the Southern Appalachian Hightland Conservancy, as Investment Chair of the French Broad River Garden Club, and as Treasurer of the Colonial Dames.  She is past President of The Friends of the WNC Nature Center.  She enjoys politics, camping, hiking, traveling, and reading. When others see your activity, they are inspired, and the process snowballs. When the process snowballs, Congress Members and Senators and, yes, even the President start to listen.
