JIM HOEY ELECTED TO THE FLORIDA FAIRTAX BOARD

We congratulate Jim Hoey, who was elected to the board of the Florida FAIRtax Educational Association (“FFTEA”), the state FAIRtax organization in Florida. Florida has one of the best organized and most active state FAIRtax organizations in the United States. Jim becomes the ninth member of the Florida board.
Jim brings much to the board. He is a US Navy nuclear submarine veteran. After serving on nuclear submarines, he entered the pulp and paper industry as a radiation safety professional. His job took him to Atlanta, Georgia, where his interest in the FAIRtax began. Jim listened to radio talk-show host Neal Boortz. As many of you know, never more than ten minutes would go by on Boortz’s show before Boortz began talking about the FAIRtax. Boortz also wrote “The FAIRtax Book: Saying Goodbye to the IRS” with Jim’s Congressman John Linder. Jim quickly became a FAIRtax fan.
Jim retired from radiation safety work and moved to the Tampa, Florida Area, where he acquired a Real Estate Broker’s license and began selling real estate. In his spare time, he searched for FAIRtax supporters and met Mark Gupton, then president of the FFTEA. Mark appointed Jim to Director for Florida’s 16th Congressional District, which lies primarliy on the South Side of Tampa Bay. In this role, Jim met many times with Representative Vern Buchanan, both at his local Town Halls and in person and with staff at his Sarasota and Washington, DC, offices.
Now more than 20 years on, Jim sold his real estate business and lives in a motorhome, with his wife of 57 years, Jeanne. Their permanent Florida address is in Crestview, but they travel across the beautiful USA in the summer, returning to Florida in the winter.
