HOBBS ATTACKS BIGGS ON THE FAIRTAX

If you vote in Arizona or know someone who does, you need to hear this. Your incumbent Governor Katie Hobbs, who is seeking reelection, attacked her opponent, Andy Biggs, for his support of the FAIRtax. Early voting begins two days from now, and ballots-by-mail go out the same day as early voting. Your friends, neighbors, family, and colleagues need to hear you call out Governor Hobbs.

According to an article in Newsmax (reporting on a Hill report), Governor Hobbs’ first television attack ad against Biggs accused the congressman of backing a proposal the Hobbs campaign says would raise costs for Arizona families, the FAIRtax. You can read about the attack here:

Newsmax says the 30-second spot, titled "No Clue," began airing after Biggs secured the Republican nomination for Governor and marked the opening salvo in one of the nation's most closely watched gubernatorial races.

* FAIRtax neither supports nor opposes candidates for public office but does inform the public about where the candidates stand on the FAIRtax.

The ad opens with audio from a television news report stating, "Inflation rose 4.2% over the past year," before cutting to Biggs saying, "No inflation, and yet the tariffs seem to be working."

The ad continues: "Biggs does have a plan to raise prices 23% more. A sales tax on everything. Gas. Groceries. Rent. A Biggs tax hit on family budgets."

The ad attacks Biggs on his support for the FairTax Act of 2025, legislation that would replace federal income, payroll, and gift taxes with a 23% national sales tax while eliminating the Internal Revenue Service.

The Hobbs campaign argues, wrongly, the proposal would increase the cost of everyday purchases, calling it "100% wrong for Arizona."

The ad continues: "Andy Biggs says there's 'no inflation,' then turns around and champions a 23% sales tax that would make everyday essentials even more expensive for Arizona families." You can watch the attack here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTuyiu_OVvk.

Hobbs’ campaign spokesman Michael Beyer said separately in a statement. "Arizona families can't afford another Washington politician making life more expensive."

Your response is easy because we’ve heard this trope before. In 2010, Mark Critz launched an almost identical campaign ad against Tim Burns. Here’s a suggestion:

“Katie Hobbs has her hand in your pocket - and she won’t take it out. Katie Hobbs wants to keep 26% of your paycheck. That’s right - 26%! That’s what today’s payroll taxes cost you. What is it about today's tax code that Katie likes so much that she wants to keep it just the way it is? Andy Biggs wants to let you keep your whole paycheck. And Andy will make your living costs more affordable. You can’t afford Katie Hobbs.”

You might also note that Katie Hobbs forgets that Representative Biggs is running for Governor, not a return to the U.S. House. A FAIRtax-like consumption tax at the state level, if he decides to pursue it, would be much less than 23% and would effectuate the same positive outcomes as the national bill.  The Governor’s besmirching of the FAIRtax comes from the same playbook that Republicans and Democrats tried against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during his 2018 race.  DeSantis stood up to the misinformation about the FAIRtax and successfully won his first term.

Please answer Katie’s attack ad and let yourself be heard. I would love to see your response.
