Ron Babin speaks to Indiana group
Ron Babin
Board Member - and Speakers’ Bureau Member - Ron Babin does not object to traveling to spread the FAIRtax word. We recently received a request from the Whitley County Patriots in Columbia City, Indiana, for a FAIRtax speaker for their meeting. Ron answered the call and drove from his Sterling Heights, Michigan home. The trip took three and a half hours each way. He spent the night there following the talk.
Ron reports that the talk was a success. He noted a crowd of 25-30 in attendance. Two of the attendees were well versed in the FAIRtax. Unfortunately, one could not be further involved for work reasons.
The other, a gentleman in his sixties, had a FAIRtax bumper sticker on his car. Ron tried to talk to him about helping with the FAIRtax, but the gentleman had to leave before the end of the talk, and Ron could not follow up with him. Everyone was receptive.
Ron's trip was as we ask our better-versed volunteers to do. Ron's membership in our Speakers' Bureau comes about because Ron has a working knowledge of the FAIRtax and has agreed to be single-issue and nonpartisan in his presentation. As you can see, he also has agreed to travel for up to three hours from his home when there is a request for a speaker.
John Grafer from Dallas, Texas, another member of our Speakers’ Bureau, advises speakers to contact the group organizer first to ask if it will be all right to ask people to sign up on FAIRtax.org. It is good to have people listen to a talk, but signing up to get information exposes the audience to reminders about the FAIRtax. Adam Yomtov of Elmsford, New York, agrees. Reminders avoid the “out of sight, out of mind” phenomenon. Ron followed that advice.
I ask speakers to inform audiences that we do not sell the list when they sign up for information. Therefore, people will not receive spam for signing up. That advice removes a roadblock to going to our website.
Paul Livingston of Jacksonville, Florida, another Speakers’ Bureau member, admonishes speakers to go with promotional materials, especially pocket cards. Pocket cards and other materials are available at https://fairtaxstore.org/. Ron followed that advice as well.
I would love to hear if you know of any groups looking for speakers. Thank you, Ron, for spreading the FAIRtax word.
