JOHN RUTHERFORD RE-ENLISTS BY SIGNING THE FAIRTAX PLEDGE

Incumbent Congressman John Rutherford, representing the Fifth Congressional District of Florida, has once again pledged to co-sponsor the FAIRtax in the 120th Congress starting in 2027. Congressman Rutherford has been a cosponsor since 2019, when the effort required a PowerPoint presentation. This time, the exercise was easier.
Florida FAIRtax State Director, Paul Livingston, notes that by 2019, it was past time for Congressman Rutherford to cosponsor the FAIRtax. He had been in office since 2017, and Paul had been giving him FAIRtax PowerPoint presentations the year before. But once Congressman Rutherford got on board, he has cosponsored our bill in every Congresses since.
Even though Congressman Rutherford became a cosponsor on the first day of the 119th Congress, it was time to ensure that he would sign on again next time. Paul began scheduling a January 2026 meeting with the Congressman in October. When the meeting took place, Paul brought fellow FAIRtax supporter, Jim Stehr, with him. Paul made sure there was a photo op. The picture above shows Paul with Congressman Rutherford holding the signed 2026 Candidate Pledge. Here is a copy of the pledge that John Rutherford signed.

At the end of the meeting, Paul left a stack of fifty FAIRtax palm cards and 2026 Prebate cards for Congressman Rutherford to hand out. Paul also placed a bug in the Congressman’s ear to start a FAIRtax caucus.
Paul notes that over the years, he and Congressman Rutherford have met four or five times. They share left-handedness and an enjoyment of doubles tennis, although they have never played together on the court.
John Rutherford represents the Fifth Congressional District of Florida, which includes the southeastern area of Jacksonville and stretches south to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine. The district starts about twenty miles south of the Georgia State Line. The district has been redrawn several times due to court orders, but has had its present boundaries since 2023.
If you meet with your Congress Member about signing the candidate pledge, I would love to hear from you.
