BRING BACK OUR COSPONSORS
We need your help to get the following six FAIRtax cosponsors from the last Congress to cosponsor the bill again:
If you live in any of these Congress Members’ districts (or even if you don’t), please plan a call or a visit to their office. Getting a former cosponsor back on the bill is just as valuable as getting a new cosponsor. This information is current as of February 2, 2023. Some of these cosponsors may already be back on the bill when this Grassroots Corner goes to press.
Before you reach out to these members, go to www.congress.gov and type in “HR25” to see if in the meantime your Congress member is back.
If we can get all our former cosponsors back on the FAIRtax bill, we will break our record from the 117th Congress by at least two.
Please thank our six new cosponsors in this Congress, particularly if you live in their districts. A simple electronic message by logging onto their Congressional web page will be helpful.
We thank our new Missouri State Director, Will Worsham, for recruiting Eric Burlison.
And please thank our seventeen: returning cosponsors:
And we of course thank our returning sponsor, Rep. Buddy Carter [R-GA-1]
Four of our previous cosponsors did not return to Congress. Mo Brooks, R, AL-05, was unsuccessful in his run for Senate. His House seat is now in the hands of Dale Strong, a Republican. Strong is worth a try.
Steve Chabot, OH-01, lost his reelection bid to Democrat Greg Landsman. As of this writing, we do not know Landsman’s view of the FAIRtax.
Jody Hice left his Congressional seat, GA-10, to run unsuccessfully for Georgia Secretary of State. Happily, his seat is now in the hands of cosponsor Mike Collins.
Dan Young, AK-At Large, passed away in March 2022. His seat is now in the hands of Democrat Mary Peltola. As of this writing, we do not know Peltola’s view of the FAIRtax.
Finally, we have a strong pickup opportunity in the Senate if we can find supporters in Oklahoma. Former cosponsor Markwayne Mullin from OK-02 has moved to the Senate. Since he cosponsored the FAIRtax in the House, he should sponsor the FAIRtax in the Senate.
Let me know if you have visited or called a Congress Member’s office about their co-sponsorship of the Fair Tax Act of 2023, HR25.
