DAVID MORELLI BRINGS THE FAIRTAX TO ARKANSAS

We introduced our then-new Arkansas State Leader, David Morelli, three years ago. Since then, David has put FAIRtax pressure on his state elected officials, setting an example you can follow by putting packets together. Here’s what he did and how he did it.First, David got the updated version of the FAIRtax candidate pledge and included it in nine packets. The Candidate Pledge is available for download under the “Get Involved” tab of the FAIRtax.org website. David’s packets went to Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Lieutenant Governor, Leslie Rutledge, his two U.S. Senators, Tom Cotton and John Boozman, the four Arkansas U.S. House Representatives, Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack, and Bruce Westerman, and his local State Senator.
Each packet included a cover letter (see below), a copy of each FAIRtax book (available on Amazon), the Candidate Pledge (see previous paragraph), a letter about the Candidate Pledge (see below), a self-addressed envelope to return the signed Pledge (David asked to be invited to the signing, per the letter, but the official could choose instead to return the signed Pledge and a photograph using the envelope), info cards about the FAIRtax (available at https://fairtaxstore.org), David’s business card.[i], and a FAIRtax pen (available at https://fairtaxstore.org). Here is a photo showing a package:

David personalized the cover letters for each recipient and said:
COVER LETTER FOR THE PACKAGE
“My name is David Morelli, and I am the Arkansas State Director for Americans for Fair Taxation (AFFT), better known as the FAIRtax organization.
”As I hope you already know, the FAIRtax is a tax replacement system that would remove all income taxation and replace it with a national consumption sales tax. It is not an additional tax. This taxation process is much fairer that the current system, far less cumbersome, and would pull in almost 100 million more taxpayers by including the underground economy (criminal, black market), the shadow economy (non-payroll immigrants and Americans who work for cash), and the tourist sector. Everyone who spends money will pay into the system. We must stop punishing American workers by constantly increasing payroll taxes and other taxes related to income. The FAIRtax would boost the American economy like never seen before.
“House Resolution Bill 25 (HR 25) is currently sitting in the House Ways and Means Committee. This legislation would enact the FAIRtax, repeal the 16th Amendment, and eliminate the IRS. There is no fairer taxation process being discussed, and I hope you will consider supporting it.
“My friends in Tennessee have passed Tennessee House Joint Resolution 17, and it has been signed by Governor Bill Lee. This Resolution supports the passage of HR25, the FAIRtax Act of 2023. A copy of the Resolution is attached. I would like to see similar legislation presented and passed by our legislators in Arkansas. I will assist in any way possible to see this happen.
“If you would ever like to discuss the FAIRtax, please reach out. I would love to have a conversation about this legislation and how it would benefit all Arkansans. Several FAIRtax supporters are also attempting to have their state incorporate the FAIRtax at the state level. Arkansas would be smart to consider this taxation process at the state level; and, again, I will help in any way to push this legislation forward.
“Please visit fairtax.org to learn more.
“Thank you for your time. I hope to speak with you soon.”

David signed each letter and gave his email and phone number. David’s cover letter for the candidate pledge read:
COVER LETTER FOR THE CANDIDATE PLEDGE
“Attached is the FAIRtax Candidate Pledge.
“If, after reviewing fairtax.org and understanding the immense benefit it holds for America, I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider signing the Pledge that is enclosed.
Please have a picture taken of you holding the signed Pledge form so we can post it on the FAIRtax.org website. It would help us make a huge step forward by showing that Arkansans care about our financial future—not just for Arkansas, but for all of America. If you do wish to sign the Pledge, I would be proud to be in the picture with you and the signed document. Please reach out at the contact information below and I will make arrangements to visit you for the picture to be taken. If you would rather not have me in the photo, please have the photo emailed to me directly at davidamorelli@msn.com or directly to the FAIRtax organization at info@FAIRtax.org, and return the signed Pledge in the provided envelope. As you can see at https://fairtax.org/candidate-pledges/no-more-income-taxes-2025-candidate-pledge, we have one Pledge already showing from James Hall, AR-5.
“As stated in the packet introduction letter: Please visit fairtax.org to learn more.
“Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.”

Each letter is easily adaptable for you, your state, and your congressional district.
David said, “All in all, each packet cost about $20...so about $180 total for nine packets, Priority Mailing included (for tracking purposes). That's not too much for the other State Leaders to do, I don't believe.”
We thank David for taking on this project at his expense. We would love to fund this project and others like it, but unfortunately, we do not have the budget.
We recognize that each state is different. Arkansas has four congressional districts, all represented by Republicans. FAIRtax is nonpartisan, but Republicans tend to make for an easier sale for us.
An equivalent project in California, with 52 congressional districts (43 of whom are Democrats with two Democrat U.S. Senators, a Democrat Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and a Democrat-controlled state legislature), would cost $1,140. Unless one knows of a friendly Democrat who leans towards the FAIRtax, it might make sense just to send packets to the Republicans. A California FAIRtax activist could finance this project for the same outlay that David made.
An equivalent project in Texas, with 38 congressional districts (12 of whom are Democrats, with two Republican U.S. Senators, a Republican Governor and Lieutenant Governor and Republican-controlled legislature) would cost $860. Subtracting the Democrats (except for any friendly Democrat) would save $240, bringing the tab down to $620. Finding one or two people to split the cost would make the burden lighter for each.
There are several ways to follow David Morelli’s example, and we thank him again. I would love to hear from you if you take on this project in your state.

[1] You can design your own business card. I had mine printed at https://www.vistaprint.com. Here’s mine. Please clear your design first with our Marketing and Communications Team Leader, Randy Fischer, randy.fischer@fairtax.org. Randy turns requests around quickly. We need to know where our logos and service marks are going.
🇺🇸 Call For Pictures & WriteUps - We need more of you to send in pictures and news. If you have something to share, please send your material to me, Jim.Bennett@FAIRtax.org, (908) 578-4975, or fax (908) 598-2888. When others see your activity, they are inspired, and the process snowballs. When the process snowballs, Congress Members, Senators, and even the President start to listen.
