America has benefited from many big solutions. The revolution that created independence from England for 13 colonies was a big solution. 72 years ago, America benefitted from another big solution—Operation Overlord, D-Day.
America was fighting a war for the survival of free people all over the world. Hitler’s vicious government controlled Europe and was busily exterminating the Jewish population of Europe and any others with whom it disagreed. Even though the records show that Hitler’s scientists were delaying the development of his nuclear bomb program, there is no question that, given more time, Hitler would have the atom bomb and there is no doubt that it would be used to subjugate all of his opponents. His scientists had developed V1 and VII rockets and were using them—on civilians.
Germany has limited quantities of the Me 262, the first operational jet that flew in World War II. Had Germany been able to draw on the vast resources of Europe, the problems with the Me 262 jet engine would have been solved and a large number of Me 262’s would likely have eliminated Allied air supremacy.
It was for this reason that it was imperative that the Allies open a front in Europe and deprive Hitler of the time and resources to develop his super weapons. D-Day is a military term denoting the day of an attack.
The weather was bad for several days. General Dwight D. Eisenhower listened to his advisors but in the end it was his decision to make and he decided to send in the troops and D-Day was June 6, 1944. 160,000 troops landed along the 50 mile French coastline of Normandy. Supported by 13,000 aircraft and 5,000 ships. Operation Overlord remains the largest amphibious assault in recorded history.
The Nazi’s had fortifications and more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were either killed or wounded. However, the Allies successfully secured the beaches and the end of Hitler’s evil was only a matter of time.
D-Day Was Not A Guaranteed Solution
Eisenhower knew that most of his troops would be carrying in excess of 80 pounds of gear and that if the weather was like the previous few days, many of the landing craft would not be able to reach the beaches and many of his troops would drown. If the invasion failed, there was a good chance that another invasion would not be attempted for at least a year. In that year Hitler would be stronger and the Allies might be forced to negotiate a peace that would leave Hitler in control of Europe.
Eisenhower wrote the following to be delivered if the invasion failed.
"Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone."
Fortunately, he did not have to deliver the message and America and its Allies defeated Hitler. America is still governed by its people and we are not slaves of evil dictators.
The FAIRtax is America’s Next Big Solution
Many people point out things that are wrong with our country. However, one of the most pressing is that our income/payroll tax system is not working. We have created a vast and unworkable income tax code. We have punished American companies and rewarded foreign companies. Our tax code has driven jobs overseas.
The FAIRtax will stimulate the growth of our economy and help create a prosperity like we used to have. No longer will most of our citizens be happy if they are not losing too much of their purchasing power each year. We will again have a vibrant and exciting economy and our children will not have to move home because they cannot find jobs.
In a booming economy, people are important. There are more jobs than people to fill them. This means that pay will increase and companies will work hard to make the work environment more comfortable because they want to retain employees.
The Time Is Now
We have an opportunity to see real tax reform and not just the make-believe tax reform that the elite want. This means that we all have to work together. We have a 20th century tax system when we need a Big Solution—the FAIRtax, a 21st century tax system. That is why we created BigSolution.org. Program 29 concentrates on simple but effective things for people with busy schedules, whereas Program 30 suggests some activities that might take a little more time. Recently Bob and Ron decided to start from scratch discussing the many problems with the current income tax system and the reason why REAL tax reform is so desperately needed in our country. In episode 3, Thomas Jefferson paid them a visit and gave his opinion of our federal income tax. As you might guess, he wasn’t very happy with what he saw. Then we searched for “the perfect tax system”.
