Floyd Zabel, Nebraska FAIRtax Co-Chair, retired farmer, and Vice President of Saline County Farm Bureau, provided this report.
I received a phone call Sunday evening that Heidi Cruz was coming to Lincoln, Tuesday, April 26th. So I made preparation by calling some friends to inform them of her coming.
Earl Visser, Nebraska FAIRtax Board member, and I arrived one hour early with FairTax pocket cards and a scrolling FairTax banners. (Earl was successful at putting one on the back of one of his friends.) Earl and I introduced ourselves to others as they came in and shared information about the FairTax. Some had not heard and did not know Ted Cruz was a co-sponsor.
Heidi spoke for 15 minutes and then we were given the opportunity to line up and have a personal one on one with Heidi and pictures could be taken. I waited until last in order to get a little more attention. There were about 100 in attendance. As the crowd dwindled and every one else was finished I moved myself up to Heidi and began my visit showing her my scrolling FairTax banner. Her immediate response was, Can I have that banner? I said sure.
However, one of her staff said we have some in the van or bus. Rachel also said that we were doing a wonderful job with the FairTax because many were talking about it. She praised me several times about that and said that she was serious.
Another good thing happened at the rally. While waiting to speak with Heidi, I saw Nebraska State Senator John Morante. Senator Morante is in charge of Nebraskans for Ted Cruz. I asked him if he would introduce a FairTax Resolution next year and he immediately said he would.
In my opinion, Heidi would make a wonderful First Lady. She is very friendly and has a God-given gift of meeting people and making you feel like she has known you forever. Sure glad I made the effort to go.
