Grassroots Corner - November 8, 2019

At the June 4, 2019 Americans For Fair Taxation Board Of Directors conference, Ron Babin of Michigan, together with Marty Sturmer of California, were elected to fill vacancies (We will feature Marty in a future Grassroots Corner).

On August 6, 2019 Ron was elected by the Board Of Directors to fill the newly created positon of Assistant Secretary.



Ron grew up in Port Huron, Michigan, and has worked in small businesses since he was 13.  In 1987 Ron graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, Accounting major, from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan.  After, he went to work in accounting and management for a private multi company manufacturing group based in Metro Detroit.

He has been married to his lovely wife for 29 years and has resided in Sterling Heights, Michigan, for 32 years.

In 1996, he returned to school and earned his Masters in Finance from Walsh College, Troy Michigan.  Ever since, he has been self-employed as Freedom Financial Consulting focused on small business administrative functions like accounting operations, database programming, spreadsheet, word processing and internet use for small business operators.

With significant exposure to the negative effects of the current income-payroll-tax system has on employers and employment, Ron believes it’s time for the IRS to be eliminated.  Ron therefore became a Volunteer in his Congressional District after hearing a FAIRtax presentation in 2003.

After a year, he became Vice President of the Michigan FairTax Association and as of January 2012 he became the Volunteer President.

In 2014 Ron was elected to the Board Of Delegates of Americans For Fair Taxation and later became a member of the Board Of Directors.  He fights for the enactment of HR25 in Congress known as the Fair Tax Act which has more than three times the cosponsors in the US House of Representatives than any other tax reform proposal.

At the state level in Michigan, there is a proposal called "The Michigan FairTax", a tax replacement plan modelled on The FAIRtax at the federal level.
