Governor Mike Huckabee has left the race for the Republican nomination for President. He was a tireless advocate for the FAIRtax, the only real tax reform and will continue to be. Why? He advocated the FAIRtax because he genuinely believes it will help save America.
In speaking with people on his campaign staff who were veterans of many political campaigns, the comments were like this:
- “He treats everyone with respect.”
- “He is genuinely a nice person.”
- “I have never worked for a nicer person.”
- “Even when I messed up, he didn’t yell but explained why it was not acceptable.”
The Governor genuinely believes that if you work hard you should be rewarded. He believes that everyone should, as Phil Gramm, the former Senator from Texas used to say, not sit in the wagon but help pull the wagon.
As a man who believes in ethics and honesty, I am sure that the Governor worries that the increasing evasion of the present income tax system is doing more than just depriving the U.S. Treasury of revenue. It is also fostering an attitude that it is ok to not obey a law even if it means that others will have to pick up the slack and pay more in taxes and pay what the evaders should have paid.
As a man that truly cares for his fellow citizens who are out of work, the Governor knows that instead of a tax system that penalizes American products and almost forces companies to locate overseas, the FAIRtax will bring jobs back to the United States. The Governor knows that the best way to cure poverty is to give people jobs and not make them reliant on the government.
As a man that understands economics, The Governor knows that a significant reason for our low economic growth is our present tax system. He knows that all economists agree that the economy will grow much faster under a consumption tax like the FAIRtax.
This is important because of the principle now called the Kadlec Curve which is explained in Appendix B of the Budget and Economic Outlook: Fiscal Years 2012 to 2022. The Kadlec Curve predicts that every one-tenth of one percent increase in the U.S. GDP increases the revenue to the Treasury over ten years by $314 billion.
Kadlec believes that if our GDP growth increases to 4% per year, this would reduce the projected budget deficit by $4 trillion.
As the Governor told me when I met with him in Iowa, the best way to pass the FAIRtax is to have a President that not only likes it but is willing to insist on its passage. Unfortunately, we will not have the persuasive voice of the Governor promoting the FAIRtax, but if a Republican is elected President, my guess is that the Governor will be offered a place in the Cabinet and will have the ear of the President.
Thanks for everything Governor!
America’s Big Solution
As Randy Fischer so eloquently explains in this week’s FAIRtax Friday, there are millions of people who are starting to understand the truth about the present income tax system. The FAIRtax is America’s Big Solution and we need to redouble our efforts to get it passed.
Remember, once the 1986 Tax Reform Bill was passed, there was no interest in considering tax reform for many years—even though there have been over 10,000 changes to the 1986 bill. We need to make our case now and over and over.
1040 Club
To those of you not familiar with the 1040 Club, AFFT is asking people to contribute $10.40 per month to AFFT. This provides a steady funding platform and allows us to spend our time not trying to raise money but actually working with groups to help make passage of the FAIRtax a reality. Thanks to each of you who have joined the 1040 Club. You are ensuring that Americans For Fair Taxation can continue to promote the FAIRtax.
If you are not a member of the 1040 Club, or if you are a member but want to join for someone else, please go to this link and sign up.
