The IRS is going after this little guy
Braegen McIntosh
FAIRtax supporter Braegen McIntosh is the poster child for the fact that the newfound money that the IRS is getting will indeed be used to go after the little guy even though the Biden administration assured us that would not be the case. Braegen writes:
“I have been following the FAIRtax for going on 15 years, or so I think. I have always been behind it, not financially, because I barely have enough to live off of, thanks in part to the IRS. I decided to tell you my story.
“I have never made very much money; $20,000 or so is the most I have ever reported. With three kids and a wife, my tax refunds have pretty much been capped every year.
“For a few years, I tried to have my own business, which IRS taxes made it nearly impossible. One year I had worked for a local grocery store chain called Publix. After leaving Publix, I got a check for the sale of stock which they had given me and which was sold upon my leaving. The check was for about $500.
“I neglected to remember to put this on my return, which was accepted by the IRS. A few years later, I got a notice saying I owe the IRS thousands of dollars for this neglect. My return was triggered after several years because I didn't put any business expenses on my return even though I would have no tax liability with expenses on it because I file a standard deduction.
“I had to hire an accountant to convince the IRS it was a simple oversight, pay some fees to IRS and the accountant fees. This amounted to almost exactly the $500 I had originally received for my hard work.
“The IRS thought my oversight was worth their attention instead of the billions of dollars the rich try to scam. So, I am sure to tell everyone I can about the FAIRtax.
“On that note, is there any way I can get ahold of business cards to easily let others know about The FAIRtax?”
To answer Braegen’s question about business cards, one can go to the FAIRtax Store at: https://fairtaxstore.org/printed-materials/. Mike Simmons at ftmike27@gmail.com will take care of you. If you want customized business cards, you will need to order them from a printer and run your proposed design by Randy Fischer, randy.fischer@fairtax.org. Randy needs to know what's out there if you plan to use the FAIRtax logo. Randy turns requests around quickly.
I would love to hear from you if you have an IRS story like Braegen’s.
