REMEMBERING ARNOLD SCHUMACHER
In today’s Grassroots Corner, we remember Arnold F. Schumacher, who was a huge proponent of the FAIRtax, a dedicated patriot, and a man of God. Mr. Schumacher retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and was, among other pursuits, an innkeeper of Middlebury’s Country Victorian Bed & Breakfast in Middlebury, Indiana.
Arnold, known to his friends and family as Arnie, was born in Queens, New York, and grew up in Garden City South on Long Island. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1979 with a degree in economics. Arnie joined the Air Force in 1980 as a Second Lieutenant, where he spent the next twenty-five years having adventures and generally trying to keep the world safe. In 1982, Arnie married Lorilee Clough. The couple was together for thirty-nine years until her death. They traveled much of the U.S. and Europe with their children, largely courtesy of the Air Force.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 2005, Arnie and his family moved to Middlebury, Indiana, where Arnie helped Lori run the bed & breakfast. Arnie’s day job was being a manager at Lowe’s in Goshen, Indiana, from which he retired.
Arnie became a FAIRtax advocate when helping others file their taxes. At many dinner and phone conversations, one would hear Arnie discussing how The FAIRtax would benefit all Americans as well as the federal government. Through his work with taxes, he recognized how difficult the current income tax system is for many hard-working Americans. Arnie also carried a pocket U.S. Constitution, which he frequently consulted.
Arnie leaves four children, all with spouses, and two grandchildren. We thank his daughter, Amanda Schumacher, for sharing this information about her father.
