MEET OUR NEW ARKANSAS STATE DIRECTOR DAVID MORELLI
Sometimes when one wishes there were a contact in a critical state, a volunteer comes along at just the right time. That is what happened in Arkansas. For years we had a name, but the emails bounced, and the phone was dead. So, Arkansas remained as a blank spot on our FAIRtax leadership list. Until now.
David Morelli noticed that Arkansas had no leader listed and reached out to us. After a phone conversation with Grassroots Director Jim Bennett and Jim’s consultation with the Credentials, Organization, Rules, and Structure (CORS) Team, David was given the position of Arkansas State Director.
David’s interest in the FAIRtax came about by listening to Neal Boortz's radio show. He had heard of the FAIRtax before, but Neal sealed the deal for David to get involved. David began his FAIRtax work by diving in and learning the nuances from studying the FAIRtax.org website, reading all the materials he could find, and listening to Neal Boortz's rants about why and how the current tax code could and should be replaced. After that, David traveled throughout Tennessee, giving speeches whenever a group wanted more information. He estimates he has spoken to over 1000 people on the FAIRtax!
David and Jim Bennett talked on the phone about Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Sanders is the daughter of former Arkansas governor and U.S. Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Mike credits his enthusiastic support of the FAIRtax in the 2016 campaign as the reason he was the last candidate to drop out before the Republican convention. David says that once Sanders is "in place" as governor, he plans to organize grassroots pressure to get her to push the FAIRtax at a state or national level.
David has two careers. He has been in the insurance industry since 1986, working in Operations Management. He currently works for AmeriBen, a third-party administrator based in Idaho. He also has worked since 1988 in the food and beverage industry. He presently tends a bar in the evenings and on weekends for a local restaurant.
David is a member of Mensa, a society whose members score in the upper 2% of the general population on an approved intelligence test. He’s also a member of ISPE (International Society for Philosophical Enquiry). Membership in that organization is open to people who score at or above the 99.9th percentile on a standardized psychometric test of intelligence. David edits the membership journal for the ISPE.
David was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He has lived all over the country and now calls Benton, Arkansas, near Little Rock, home. He has been married to his wife Angela since 2005. They have no children but four cats, which David says is enough.
David and Angela moved to the Little Rock area in 2020 so Angela could be near family. He is looking forward to helping Arkansas become a focal point in the fight for the FAIRtax.
