GRASSROOTS LEADERS IN ACTION
Tennessee Grassroots Leader Dr. Tony Urbanek is busy running several businesses, but that activity does not stop him from working to make the FAIRtax happen. Because he does not have the time himself, Tony has hired a college student to make calls. The calls aim to show Tennessee as a consumption tax model that other states can follow. To reach this goal, Tennessee needs a resolution in the state legislature stating that Tennessee supports the FAIRtax. Tony has the political pull to make that goal happen. After we get the resolution, Tony plans to visit the nine Congress members in his state’s delegation.
Tony also spoke with Joe Scarlett. Joe is the CEO of Tractor Supply Company headquartered near Tony in Brentwood, Tennessee. Tractor Supply is an American Fortune 500 chain of retail stores with net sales of nearly $15 billion. The company sells products for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, livestock, equine, and pet care for recreational farmers and ranchers, pet owners, and landowners. The company has 2,000 stores.
Joe had called Tony back in response to a book Tony had given him. Tony is also thinking about a fundraiser for FAIRtax.
Meanwhile, our Georgia state leader Jim Duffie reported that our Advisory Board member Chad Hagan is helping put together fundraisers that could benefit FAIRtax. Chad may be helpful in another way, too. Our economist, Dr. Karen Walby, emailed Chad about an update to our economic study. Chad may be prepared to help fund it.
Jim Duffie also noted that Grover Norquist is promoting Georgia as potentially the tenth state to have no income tax. Although Norquist usually promotes the flat income tax, his organization permits him to promote abolishing the income tax at the state level without concern that his backers would complain.
Please let me know if you have any activity to report.
