Call to Action: Bring FAIRtax to the Republican Presidential Debate
We need your help to get FAIRtax into the nation’s first Republican Presidential debate in Milwaukee on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
New Jersey FAIRtax-er John O’Rourke noted that the following declared Republican Presidential candidates cosponsored the FAIRtax when they were in the House of Representatives:

- Mike Pence, Indiana
- Tim Scott, South Carolina.
We are still determining if these candidates will qualify for a spot on the debate stage. To get a place on the debate stage, each candidate must have a minimum of 40,000 unique donors to their campaign, with at least 200 unique donors per state or territory in 20 states and territories. In addition, each candidate must poll above one percent starting in July 2023 in three national polls - or in two national polls and one early primary state poll.
When pen went to paper for this article, we did not know whether these three candidates would qualify, but it seems rather unlikely that there could be a legitimate debate without them. Regardless of who qualifies, we need to hold the feet of all participants who appear on stage to the fire and make them state their position on the FAIRtax. Do they want to let people bring home their whole paychecks, free them from ever filling out a tax return again and put the IRS out of business? Or do they favor keeping the income tax and the withholding that comes with it, keeping the government’s nose in everyone’s personal financial business and making the IRS even stronger and meaner?
We know where Ron DeSantis stands. Many of you will recall that a Trump-supported PAC ran attack ads against DeSantis for supporting "a 30% sales tax on everything you buy." The ad did not mention the FAIRtax by name, but we knew what it meant. The good news is that, in the face of these attack ads, DeSantis is not backing away from his support of the FAIRtax. We hope he appears on stage and gets the question.
The moderators for this first debate are Bret Baier and Martha McCallum of Fox News.
So, what can you do to help? We have a large enough support base so that, if just five percent of you respond, the moderators will have to pay attention to us. Contact Bret Baier and Martha McCallum at:

Martha McCallum: marthamaccallum@foxnews.com.
You can preface your question with any statement you want supporting the FAIRtax and finish with a sentence like: “If elected, will you propose to Congress and actively work to promote the enactment of the FAIRtax, currently HR25?” Or, “If the FAIRtax bill, currently HR25, reaches your desk in the White House, will you sign it into law?”
Even if the answer from the candidate is negative, we still get needed publicity.
The moment is now. We need your help.
FAIRtax is non-partisan and does not favor Republicans over Democrats. If there were a Democratic Presidential debate, which unfortunately does not seem to be, we would ask you to do the same for them.
I would love to hear your ideas about how to get FAIRtax into more debates.
