THE SOCIAL PRESSURE INDEX—THE GAP BETWEEN AMERICAN’S TRUE OPINIONS AND THEIR PUBLICLY STATED OPINIONS
FAIRtax supporters are not only interested in the economic growth that will come from the FAIRtax but, perhaps more importantly, they really like the increase in personal freedom that eliminating the income tax and the IRS brings.
When we speak with neighbors and friends, there is almost universal agreement that the FAIRtax is a better system. However, too few of them seem to be willing to take a strong public position in support of the change.
This recent poll conducted by Populace, a non-partisan Massachusetts based think tank, provides some insight into what is happening in America and why some people are not speaking out.
Here are some of the key findings:
1. 58% of Americans believe most people cannot share their honest opinions about sensitive topics in society today.
2. 61% of Americans admit to self-silencing and every single demographic group is misrepresenting their true opinions on many sensitive issues.
3. College graduates and political independents are the least comfortable about sharing their private views.
4. While 37% of Americans publicly say that we live in a mostly fair society, only 7% privately agree.
5. Public opinion results show 22% generally distrust government and 24% generally distrust the media. The private opinion though, is that a whopping 96% of us distrust government and 93% distrust the media.
6. Public polls indicate 65% of Americans are openly pessimistic about the direction of the country. In private, 69% are openly pessimistic about the direction of the country—only slightly higher.
7. Approximately 66% of Americans publicly believe that society is better off when individuals are free to make their own decisions, rather than having “experts” make decisions for them. 8. While 26% of Americans publicly agree that the government should restrict speech deemed discriminatory or offensive, only 5% privately agree with censorship indicating near-universal support for protecting objectionable speech from government censorship.
9. While 28% of Americans publicly agree that the greater good is more important than individual rights, only 18% believe this in private.
If only 4% of our American friends and neighbors trust the government and want to limit the power of the government to control their lives, our job is easier.
We just have to show them how the FAIRtax frees them from government control over their money and their federal taxes. Enactment of the FAIRtax will be the largest transfer of power from the government to the people ever. With the FAIRtax, we, not some faceless bureaucrat or IRS agent, will decide how much federal tax we pay and when we pay it.
The FAIRtax doesn’t punish you for earnings, savings and investments. You get to keep all you earn. Savings and investments are not taxed. You only pay taxes when you consume new goods and retail services.

- Keeps jobs in the U.S. rather than exporting them to other countries.
- Permanently establishes the solvency of Social Security and Medicare.
- Eliminates special treatment for any group of taxpayers.
- Benefits lower income groups more than the present income/payroll tax system and is FAIR.
- Eliminates the need to file tax returns.
- Eliminates the need for the IRS!
- Allows each of us, not the Elites and their minions, to determine the amount of federal tax we pay.
- IS THE LARGEST TRANSFER OF POWER FROM D.C. TO THE PEOPLE SINCE THE CONSTITUTION WAS ADOPTED.
The American people will overwhelmingly support the FAIRtax if they are given the chance and all of us will benefit.

THE SOLUTION—PASS THE FAIRTAX!
Why would D.C. pass the FAIRtax and give up this almost unlimited source of donations? The only way that they will is if the rest of us demand it!
Isn’t it time to end this ludicrous tax collection system and the IRS?
There is going to be a vote on the FAIRtax in the House of Representatives.
We now have the opportunity to force all Members of the House to show where they stand. They can:
- Vote for the present income/payroll tax system or for the FAIRtax.
- Support the corrupt income tax and the IRS or eliminate it. It can’t be any simpler than that.
- Hide the true cost of their government or pass the FAIRtax and show everyone the true cost of government on each retail receipt.
- Support the largest transfer of power from government to the people, the FAIRtax, or not.
If Members think that the FAIRtax needs to be amended to address a problem, then they can propose the change. Don’t reject the entire bill because it has a perceived “flaw” that can be addressed and, if it is a real “flaw”, corrected in the final bill.
