Maryland lawmakers are heading into a new legislative session facing a budget shortfall, and sources tell 11 News that could mean tax increases, new taxes and/or fees.
Transportation revenue, climate change and long-term education funding are some of the big-ticket items that need funding -- and money to pay for all of that could come out of Marylanders' pockets.
Presently, there proposals that are only suggestions; No pre-filed bills have been submitted that call for tax and/or fee increases.
Clean air and climate change
Drivers know they have to pay road tolls, but what about paying for air? A so-called "clean air toll" under proposal by the Maryland Department of the Environment would go toward helping to reduce harmful emissions that contribute to climate change.
