Veteran’s Day
In commemorating our veterans we are paying tribute to those men and women who have allowed us to remain an independent people with the opportunity to change policies and laws at the polls and through our combined efforts.
Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
The Revolutionary War and the FAIRtax
Sometimes those of us who are ardent supporters of the FAIRtax get frustrated that it is very difficult to obtain supporters. Sure,. most people agree with the idea but few are willing, or able time-wise, to become advocates.
Many of us have forgotten just how few people fought and obtained our independence from England. Here are some facts from Shmoop.com.
Total American battle casualties in the Revolutionary War: 6,824 (estimates range between this figure and 4,435; some 90% of them came from the Continental Army)76
Ratio of American deaths to the free white male population (aged sixteen to 45) who served in the war: 1 in 20 (this would be the equivalent of about 3 million people today)77
Total Americans wounded in the Revolutionary War: 8,44578
Total American deaths from disease in the Revolutionary War: 10,000 (approximation)79
Total Americans who died in British prisons in the Revolutionary War: 8,50080
Total Americans captured in the Revolutionary War: 18,15281

Of the 3,000,000 population of the Colonies, only a total of 80,000 are thought to have participated as American troops—and not all at one time. In fact, many times the soldiers would go home for the planting and harvesting of crops.
Are There Lessons For the FAIRtax?
There were times when General Washington only had 1,000 men at his command, but he persisted. At most times fewer than 2% of the population were fighting for our independence against the World’s greatest military power.
There was never enough money—even to buy adequate food and clothes for the troops. Yet, somehow they persisted and finally a combination of events led to victory.
We FAIRtax supporters never have enough money to do the things that we believe are needed, but we persist—and we are making progress.
The present income and payroll tax system is failing and has to be replaced. We are the best alternative and if we keep pressing, we will prevail.

Chairman Brady
Long-time FAIRtax cosponsor Kevin Brady has become the House Chairman of the Ways And Means Committee. Peggy and I plan to meet with him the first week of December and we will provide a report.
