Georgia has had a FairTax bill “dropped” in the Georgia House Of Representatives in 2016, 2017 and 2018.  We did not have a bill in the 2019 session, which ended in late March.

We are currently working through some issues and hope to have a bill in the 2020 session, which will begin in early January.  This bill will implement the FairTax design at both the state and county-local levels for Georgia.  It will eliminate the state income tax and feature a rebate mechanism just as the federal level bill does. The FairTax design for both the state and federal levels consists of the following 5 descriptors:
  • Low Rate
  • Broad Based
  • Revenue Neutral
  • Progressive
  • Consumption

The 2016, 2017, 2018 bills were sponsored by Rep. Emory Dunahoo (Gillsville, GA)  and we anticipate the 2020 bill will be as well.
