San Diego still trying to give back $435k in overpaid taxes, fees
Time is running out to claim $435,000 in refunds that Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister is trying to reunite with people and businesses that have overpaid property taxes and fees to county government.

Some 1,251 accounts were due refunds as of Wednesday, including Balcor, a company that is entitled to $60,141 that the county has not been able to locate. The mysterious business is owed the single largest refund for some sort of past work with county Planning and Development Services.

No matter the size of the refund, claims are due by Sept. 8. A full listing of accounts due a refund can be found on the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s website, Applications can be emailed to or by calling (877) 829-4732. The county mails refund checks after verifying those making the claim are the ones owed money.

McAllister announced in July that 1,360 people and businesses were owed refunds for overpaid taxes, deposits for government services, and money used as exhibits in court cases. It totaled about $555,000 and so far approximately $120,000 has already been claimed.
