Get the FAIRtax Guys on the air
The FAIRtax Guys and FAIRtax Power Radio are among some of the best-kept secrets in the country. That is a problem for those of us who want to see the FAIRtax replace the Federal income tax.
Bob Paxton and Ron Maiellaro started FAIRtax Power Radio over seven years ago as a weekly thirty-minute program for an internet radio station. Following Ron’s untimely death in August of 2021, Bob Scarborough of WTOB in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, stepped in as co-host. Scarborough put the program on WTOB and convinced WLSC in Loris, South Carolina, and WAME in Salisbury, North Carolina, to carry it as well.
In addition to the above-mentioned radio stations, FAIRtax Power Radio is heard on Facebook, Rumble, and YouTube. But still, far too few people know about it. If more over-the-air and cable stations were to carry FAIRtax Power Radio, we could possibly force the DC elites who have kept the FAIRtax bottled up in committee for decades to bring it out of the shadows and into the sunshine.
You can play a role in making that happen. Here is my thinking.
In my home state of New Jersey, our media comes out of New York and Philadelphia. New York is the most expensive media market in the country, and Philadelphia is in the top ten. New York was so expensive that even Neal Boortz wasn’t on the air there during his heyday as a nationwide talk show host when he was plugging the FAIRtax. So, why is it even worth trying to get FAIRtax Power Radio on the air in a state like New Jersey?
A little-known secret is that, in the shadows of New York and Philly, there are over one hundred fifty radio stations that transmit to local and regional audiences. One notable example is New Jersey 101.5, which proudly markets itself as “Not New York, not Philadelphia, proud to be Neeew Jersey!”

New Jersey 101.5 may not be low-wattage, but many remaining stations are, and they would be off the air if they weren’t making money.
How do you find out about them? A Google search term for “radio stations in [YOURSTATE] will usually pull up a list on Wikipedia, including a column for “Format.”
The Format column lets you eliminate many stations that are not worth your effort. Examples include religious, doo-wop/oldies/top 40, classic rock, classical, Korean (sorry, the Two Bobs are not yet available in Korean!), Hindi (ditto!), Spanish (same answer), and sports. In New Jersey, one can thus winnow the list down to around fifty stations.
The next issue is money. Radio stations make their money by selling time. Unfortunately, the FAIRtax movement is a grassroots, volunteer effort that just doesn’t have the funds needed to buy thirty minutes of air time every week.
However, the FCC requires all licensed broadcast stations to devote a certain amount of their time to community affairs programming. FAIRtax Power Radio can be pitched to radio stations as an excellent and free way to help them meet their community affairs requirement. The stations in the Carolinas that carry the program are using it for this purpose.
It’s true that radio stations tend to air their community affairs programming at unsold times at odd hours when fewer people are listening. But still, FAIRtax Power Radio at 3:00 AM is better than no FAIRtax Power Radio at all. There may be listeners at 3:00 AM who would prefer FAIRtax Power Radio to paid programming and would want to spread the word.
We have a letter format we are about to try. Please let me know if you would like a copy to try in your state – and I would love to hear how successful you are with it.
